How To Overcome IBS "The Harmony Way"

How To Overcome IBS "The Harmony Way"

Hey Folks,

I remember at time where i went to Mexico, i had a great time and ate like a mexican king

All of the beautiful colors, nice people and festive music quickly dropped my defenses,

and i'm not just talking about my physical alertness lol

My wife an i enjoyed a flawless vacation with no no hiccups. We were vigilant about not drinking from the local tap water we mindful of our fresh fruit intake. One would say we had it all figured out lol

Until!

Until we flew home and knew something was stirring in my stomach. Ill save you the graphic expression but Montezuma got their revenge on me, before i was a Functional Medicine Practitioner I didn't know much about environmental toxins, micro-bacteria, dysbiosis, or "not rinsing your toothbrush with compromised water".

In my feeble attempt to fix the stir i went though multiple medication. I alternated form Diarrhea to constipation for weeks. I was in a state of Irritable Bowel Syndrome!

Let's also talk about the causes and the symptoms of this. disorder then, of course, let's discuss the harmony way to heal IBS or irritable bowel syndrome. IBS is a functional gastrointestinal disorder that affects the large intestine, causing a variety of symptoms without any structural damage.

It is important to differentiate this from Ibd, which is also known as irritable bow disease, irritable bow disea irritable bow disease is a autoimmune disorder. Where are the bodies out of immune? Where the body's immune system attacks the gastro intestinal track. This is characterized by 2 main days diseases. Ulcerate of colitis and crohl's disease

For the sake of today's discussion, we'll talk about irritable bow syndrome exclusively

Symptoms of IBS can vary but generally include:

Digestive Issues: Bloating, gas, diarrhea (IBS-D), constipation (IBS-C), or alternating (IBS-M).

Abdominal Pain: Cramping or discomfort, often relieved by a bowel movement.

Mucus in Stool: Some patients notice white mucus in their stool.

Changes in Bowel Habits: Urgency, incomplete evacuation, or inconsistent stool consistency.

Non-GI Symptoms: Fatigue, sleep disturbances, anxiety, and depression can also accompany IBS.

Symptoms are often triggered by food, stress, or hormonal

While the exact cause of ibs is unclear, IBS may result from a combination of:

Gut Dysbiosis: Imbalance of gut bacteria.

Food Sensitivities: Certain foods (gluten, dairy, FODMAPs) can trigger symptoms.

Stress and Brain-Gut Axis Dysfunction: The gut and brain communicate via the vagus nerve, and stress can disrupt digestion.

Gut Motility Issues: Either too fast (diarrhea) or too slow (constipation).

Inflammation & Post-Infectious IBS: In some cases, a prior gut infection may trigger long-term IBS symptoms.

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO): An overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine can mimic IBS.

N harmony medicine takes a root-cause approach rather than just managing symptoms. Some strategies include:

1. Comprehensive Gut Testing

Stool tests (GI-MAP) to assess gut microbiome health.

Organic acid tests to identify gut dysbiosis.

SIBO breath testing for bacterial overgrowth.

2. Dietary & Nutritional Strategies

Elimination Diets: Removing trigger foods like gluten, dairy, and high-FODMAP foods.

Low-FODMAP Diet: Reducing fermentable carbs that cause gas and bloating.

Nutritional Support: Adding digestive enzymes, probiotics, and prebiotics tailored to gut imbalances.

3. Appropriate supplements

Balancing Gut Bacteria

Using specific probiotics (e.g., Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium) to restore microbial balance.

Targeted antimicrobial herbs if dysbiosis or SIBO is present.

Healing the Gut Lining

L-Glutamine, zinc carnosine, and aloe vera to support the intestinal lining.

Bone broth or collagen peptides for gut repair.

Hormonal & Neurotransmitter Support

Managing serotonin, which influences gut motility and mood.

Optimizing thyroid and adrenal function if they contribute to IBS symptoms.

4. Addressing Stress & Nervous System Regulation

Mind-body techniques like meditation, deep breathing, and vagus nerve stimulation. Sleeping, excersising, sun time

Adaptogenic herbs (ashwagandha, rhodiola) to modulate stress response.

By addressing gut health, diet, stress, and underlying imbalances, functional medicine offers a personalized, long-term approach to IBS management rather than just symptom suppression.
