What Foods Fight Fatigue?

Fight Fatigue With These Natural Foods

Is it typical of you to wake up feeling sluggish? Do you find yourself feeling knackered throughout the day? Have you ever considered that your body might be signaling for you to make some dietary changes?
If your diet is high in sugary drinks/foods, baked goods, heavily caffeinated drinks, and ultra-processed foods (ramen, pasta, canned veggies, etc.), you are more likely to suffer from frequent exhaustion and fatigue.
Whether the cause of your fatigue is a nutrient-deficient diet or unhealthy lifestyle habits, there are certain natural foods you can eat to fight off fatigue. Let’s discuss them.

Spinach
All too often, iron and/or magnesium deficiency is the primary cause of exhaustion and fatigue. Half a cup of boiled spinach supplies 17% of the daily value (DV) for iron and 19% of the DV for magnesium.
Spinach also contains essential vitamins like vitamin C, K, E, and a few B-vitamins and antioxidants that are guaranteed to give you an instant energy boost and protect your cells from damage.

Mushrooms
One study revealed that edible and medicinal mushrooms like Reishi, Cordyceps, Lion’s Mane, and Maitake reduce fatigue by increasing glycogen storage in the liver and muscles. Mushrooms are rich sources of fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients that support the gut microbiota and boost essential internal functions.
You can enjoy mushrooms in salad bowls, healthy burgers, sandwiches, or soups.

Chia Seeds
Chia is a Mayan word that translates to strength; the superfood is known as an energy booster. It is packed with gut-friendly fiber, healthy fats, protein, vitamins, and minerals.
Mix a tablespoon of chia seeds, half of a tablespoon of lemon juice, and one tablespoon of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a glass of water, let it sit for 10-15 minutes, and drink first thing in the morning. This drink is popularly known as morning elixir or runners drink. Also, you can add chia seeds to your morning smoothie blends, pudding, overnight oats, and breakfast cereals.
Other seeds such as pistachios, flax and sunflower seeds, and even nuts like almonds, walnuts, and Brazil nuts are packed full of omega-3s, vitamins, minerals, macronutrients, and fiber that will help kickstart your metabolism and energize your body. They will make tasty mid-day snacks, and the awesome thing is, they are all weight-loss friendly.

Bananas
Ever heard anyone refer to bananas as a happy fruit? The vibrant-yellow colored fruit contains tryptophan, an amino acid that’s converted to serotonin—a hormone known to induce relaxation and happiness. Also, bananas are loaded with fiber, vitamin B6 and C, and minerals like potassium, magnesium, and copper, all contributing to metabolism, energy production, and homeostasis.
The good thing about this fatigue-fighting fruit is that it is cheap and available all year round. You can eat it whole or add it to your smoothies, parfaits, salad bowls, and breakfast cereals.
Other natural foods that help fight fatigue include avocado, dates, salmon, eggs, bee pollen, beans, sweet potatoes, complex carbohydrates, whole grains like oats, and ayurvedic herbs.

Wrapping Up
Your body is made up of about 60% water, so drinking water is just as essential as eating healthy food. Dehydration is a proven cause of migraines, fatigue, low mood, drowsiness, confusion, and reduced alertness both at rest and during activity.

If you must banish fatigue for good, we recommend that you drink 8 to 10 glasses of plain or fruit-infused water and eat fruits like watermelon, pineapple, oranges, and cucumber, with high water content.
