The Power Of Mushrooms

Growing up as a kid I loved pizza.

But, I thought supreme pizzas with all of those gross peppers was utter nonsense

To top it off, “they had the nerve to plop a few of those moist-moldy-mushrooms in the mix?”

Well, here we are decades late, and Mushrooms have become a must in my household.

Mushrooms have been used for their medicinal properties for thousands of years. Mushrooms have been used in Roman, Chinese, Egyptian, Greek and Mexican Cultures.

In fact, a 5,400-year-old mummy was identified in the 1990s with Mushroom growth indicative of having anti-parasitic properties.

There are between 15,000-23,000 Mushroom species.

Guess what? Every species has a unique purpose!

Many of these species are not just edible but they also have incredibly profound benefits.

Some of the benefits are:
Anti-Cancerous

Antioxidant

Supports Healthy Immune Function

Lipid Lowering

Anti-Diabetic

Anti-Hypertensive

Sedative

Anti-Viral

Anti-Microbial

Anti-Tumor

“Do I have your attention yet?”

If that is not enough, recent research suggests that certain Mushrooms have reversing properties for breast cancer, Leaky Gut and and Dysbiosis.

Now, while I still have your attention, don’t go out and start picking your own wild mushrooms. Just like must produce and meats, Mushrooms require experienced foraging and care. Most of your local farmers markets and grocers offer access to common edible species like
Cremini, Maitake, Shiitake, Lion’s Mane, Chaga, Cordyceps, Oyster, and Turkey Tails.

Now, you may be like me and may wonder how on earth can I prepare these in my kitchen?

First, when you buy them look for loosely, packaged, firm and evenly colored mushrooms. Avoid slime and mold. Mushrooms only require a water soak/ light cleansing and a trim of their lowermost stem. (4-5 days of refrigeration)

Mushrooms are tasty when eaten raw, broiled, roasted, grilled and sauteed with Sea Salt, Parsley, Garlic and garnished with pepper.

As you can see, there are many ways you can benefit from adding these foods to your regiment.

If you are a person who needs these medicinal properties, but traditional medicine is not helping you thrive. Try these out under the observation of your healthcare provider.
